HAYWARD — The 49th-annual American Birkebeiner cross-country ski races, the largest ski event in North America, took place on Birkie Week Wednesday through Saturday, Feb. 22-25. The following are the results for local skiers who competed in the full Birkebeiner 50K Skate and 52K Classic, Kortelopet 29K and Prince Haakon 15K.
Some of the skiers chose to compete in the open track races on Feb. 22, while others raced in the regular races Feb. 24-25. The open track began in 2021, when the COVID-19 pandemic was still ongoing, to allow skiers to socially distance and also for those who wanted a less-competitive race. The open track was well-received and will now be a tradition.
