Team effort wins game

SPOONER– The Spooner-Shell Lake Rails defeated Altoona 3-2 in WIAA playoff soccer at Spooner on Tuesday, Oct. 16.

The Rails went ahead 1-0 on a goal by Jeremy Bouchard at 13:02 of the first half. At 14:25, Altoona tied the game at 1-1.

Spence Hoellen put the Rails ahead 2-1 with a score at 16:39. Hoellen scored again at 21:17 to give Spooner-Shell Lake a 3-1 advantage. Altoona made the game closer at 14:58, but that was the final goal the Rail defense and goalie Aaron Sacco would allow, making the final 3-2.

On Thursday, Oct. 18, the Rails advance to their second playoff. Seeded #8, Spooner/Shell Lake will play at #1 seeded Baldwin-Woodville. The game will take place at Millpond Park beginning at 4 p.m.
