AMERY– The Spooner Rail softball team, coached by Ryan McKinney, started the spring softball season in exciting fashion as they traveled to Amery on Friday, April 10.

“It was an exciting game that ended in extra innings,” said Coach McKinney.

Spooner won in the 8th inning by a score of 8-7.

The Rails scored 4 runs in the first inning. Dani DeWitt's first swing of the year went for a home run over the left field fence followed by another home run in the 1st by Jenna Curtis.

After the 1st inning, it was 5-5 but both teams settled in after that.

“Jenna Curtis made some athletic plays late in the game and Audi Blonk got in the zone pitching to help the Rails with their first win of the season,” said Coach McKinney.

The Spooner Rail varsity roster this season is made up of Hanna Davis, Lexi Pfaff, Sammy Osborn, Sydney  Busch, Audi Blonk, Cassidy Quinton, Jenna Curtis, Kenzie Hanson, Sophie Del Fiacco, Liz Walker, Katie Gobel, Dani DeWitt, Erica Bauer, Julia Vogel and Kayla Boutwell.

The Rail girls now enter a home stand. On Monday, April 13 the Rails will host Northwood. Spooner hosts Barron in their first Heart O’ North Conference contest on Thursday, April 16. And on Monday, April 20, Drummond will visit the Rails.
