An increased chance of strong to severe thunderstorms is possible for Tuesday night into Wednesday, mainly for areas from the Brainerd Lakes northeast to Virginia and the Twin Ports, and points southeast over northwest Wisconsin, as a cold front boundary moves southward over the Northland, the National Weather Service warns.
"The expected timing of severe weather should be after 9 p.m. CDT tonight," the NWS said on Tuesday. "The main threats will be large hail and damaging winds, with a small chance of a tornado and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding.
"Be sure to stay weather aware tonight," the NWS said.
