One hundred and two years ago the war later called World War I came to an end on November 11 at 9 a.m. on the 11th day of the 11th month. It was called Armistice Day. Many Americans commemorate that day by a moment of silence.

My friend had been born in France. I asked her if she was from Paris. She said, “Verdun. Both World Wars happened at Verdun.”
