Ashland-Solar Recognition

Solar panels stand behind the McLean Environmental Living and Learning Community Building at the Northland College campus. Northland has been a solar pioneer in Ashland, and city officials have positioned the community for growth in the area of solar development with Ashland’s designation as a SolSmart Silver Community, recognizing the city’s efforts to advance solar energy growth.

The city of Ashland has been recognized for its efforts to encourage the development of solar energy by being designated a SolSmart Silver Community.

SolSmart is a national designation program recognizing cities, counties and towns that foster the development of mature solar markets. The International City/County Management Association and the Solar Foundation lead the program. It seeks to recognize communities that have reduced unnecessary paperwork, red tape and other burdensome requirements that increase costs for the development of solar energy and discourage solar development in the community.
