Ashland County Public Health Officer Elizabeth Szot said she remains convinced that local bars should be shut down to stifle an outbreak in COVID-19 infections, even as the order closing taverns has been rescinded.

Szot said bars and taverns in Ashland and across the country are COVID hotbeds because they offer the ideal environment for transmission —unmasked, unrelated people in close quarters indoors. That’s why she ordered them closed last week as local cases connected to taverns spiked.
