David Jacobson, 85, of Plymouth, Minnesota, died on Monday, Nov. 11, 2019.
David was born on April 16, 1934, in Stanley to James and Clara (Smeland) Jacobson. He attended and graduated from Stanley High School and then served in the U.S. Army from 1953 until his honorable discharge in 1955 with the rank of corporal.
Upon his return, he entered the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and later transferred to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point where he graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Natural Resources. He retired from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources as the district director of the Northwest District after 30 years of service in towns such as Rhinelander, Ladysmith, Hayward, Seymour, and Spooner.
David owned a Christmas tree farm in Hayward for many years, built a log cabin for his family near Hayward, and loved to hunt and fish.
David is survived by his daughter Mary (Dan) Maderich of Ashland; son-in-law Mark Eldred of Plymouth, Minnestoa; daughter-in-law Rhoda Jacobson of Mt. Gretna, Pennsylvania; six grandchildren, Holly and Lauren Maderich of Ashland, Eric and Aaron Eldred of Plymouth, Minnesota, and Ian Jacobson and Owen Jacobson of Lancaster; sisters, Nancy (Roger) Orlady of Neenah, Janet (Ken) Fremsted of Stanley, and Barbara Schmitt of North Carolina.
David is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carol; daughter, Karen Eldred; son, Daniel Jacobson; brother, Jerry; and sisters, Pauline and Jean.
Funeral services for David Jacobson were held on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 11am, at the Spooner Funeral Home with Pastor Heather Kistner officiating. Visitation was on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment with Military Honors followed at the Spooner Cemetery.
