The calendar page has just flipped to September. The kids are back in school, Labor Day weekend has recently passed, high school football teams are playing and there is a certain “feel” in the morning air that tells us that things are changing.

Autumn is slowly drifting back into the Northland. The long days of summer are gone now. Not long ago, it was still light past 9 p.m. Not now. Darkness is settling in earlier and earlier every evening. The sleek, red deer that visit the front yard bird feeder will soon have their summer coats replaced by darker, thicker fur in anticipation of harsher weather to come.
