Severe thunderstorms hit Sawyer County between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. on Friday, July 19, with heavy rain in the Hayward-LCO area and high winds in the central and south areas of the county. Multiple trees and power lines were reported down in the Gurno Lake and Reserve area, the west part of the Chippewa Flowage, Radisson, Hwy. H north to Radisson, Hwy. G north of Loetta, and Hwy. 27-70 in Ojibwa and Moose Lake.

Xcel Energy reported 15 outages in the Hayward area affecting 594 customers.

A tornado watch was in effect until 10 p.m. Friday.

Events scheduled for Friday evening at the Honor the Earth Pow Wow were canceled and the pow wow grounds was evacuated by the LCO Fire Department. Local fire departments were placed on stand-by and responded to clear downed trees from roadways.
