TOWN OF EUREKA– Anthony Lewsader, 50, of North St. Paul, Minnesota, died after his motorcycle crashed into a deer on Tuesday, Aug. 6.
Lewsader was driving a 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle north on Hwy. 87 with a friend when the accident occurred on Hwy. 87 south of 210th Avenue in the town of Eureka, Polk County.
The friend saw the deer walking out of the east ditch but did not believe that Lewsader saw it until it was on the road, the Polk County Sheriff's Office said.
When Lewsader saw the deer, he braked to the point of leaving skid marks but could not avoid hitting it. He was thrown from the motorcycle, and both continued to the north, tumbling on the pavement. Lewsader was not wearing a helmet, and he came to rest in the road with injuries to his head.
Lewsader was airlifted by the Life Link air ambulance and flown to Regions Hospital in St Paul, but he died from his injuries.
The Cushing Fire Department and First Responders, Lakes Area EMS, and the Life Link Air Ambulance assisted the sheriff's department.
