SHELL LAKE– The Shell Lake Public Library has a host of events planned for August.

Antsy Pants Story Time: Thursdays, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Story time to get kids moving and grooving. Songs, stories, dancing, and dramatic play all focused around one main theme each month. August’s theme: Summer Vacation (camping, beach, fishing, zoo).

Story Time: Fridays, 10:30 to 11:15 a.m.

Stories, crafts, and snacks geared to preschool age children, but all are welcome. Presented by Lakeland Family Resource Center.

Movie Night @ the Library: Wednesday, Aug. 14, 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Big screen, great sound, air conditioning, and free popcorn provided. Three chimps are sent into space to explore the possibility of alien life when an unmanned space shuttle crash lands on an uncharted planet. Rated G. Check our website at or call 715-468-2074 to find out the movie.

Fly Fishing Myth Busting: Monday, Aug. 19, 6 to 7 p.m.

How do you learn to fly fish? Practice. What can you catch on a fly? Any kind of fish. Join Larry Mann as he shares information on how to get into fly fishing, answers your questions, and shows how to cast.

A Universe of Stories – Star Wars Party: Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2-3 p.m.

Kids, help make the last Summer Reading event out of this world! Star Wars games and activities: bomb the death star, storm the storm troopers, make a lightsaber, and more.

Piano Concert: Monday, Aug. 26, 7 p.m. at Erika Quam Memorial Theater

Shania Key will perform music selections from the classical, romantic, and 20th dentury eras. Refreshments will be served.

Used Book Sale: Aug. 30 – Sept. 1; Friday 1 to 4 pm, Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Located at the Shell Lake Memorial Park beach shelter house. It’s that time again! Stop by during Town and Country Days to peruse everything from non-fiction to romance to children’s books and lots more. Free-will donation. Shell Lake Public Library fundraiser.

Spelling Bee: Saturday, Aug. 31, 9:30 a.m. at Shell Lake Memorial Park pavilion

Join in on an old-fashioned spelling bee during Town and Country Days. Age groups: 9-11, 12-14, 15 and up, adults included. Registration starts at 9 a.m. Prize for each age group. Sponsored by the Shell Lake Public Library.

Shell Lake Beach Dance Party: Sunday, Sept. 1, 7 to 9 p.m. at Shell Lake Memorial Park

End summer with a party! Youth 12-18 are invited to the beach/shelter house for DJ music, dancing, and fun contests. Visit the SL Beach Dance Party Facebook event page to request favorite tunes. Winners of the Shell Lake Public Library’s teen summer reading program drawing also will s be announced at the party.

Sponsored by Shell Lake Public Library and Washburn County AODA.

“Also don’t forget to sign up the kids, teens, and adults in your family for the Summer Reading Program,” the library said. “It’s not too late. Ends August 30. Read books, win prizes!”

Events are free unless otherwise mentioned. Children under 10 years must be accompanied by an adult or caregiver.
