The Hayward United Wolfpack men’s soccer team posted wins over Spooner and Rice Lake at recent matches in Hayward to improve their Wisconsin Primary Amateur Soccer League (WPASL) record to 3-3.
On Saturday, June 29, the Wolfpack battled Inter Wisconsin (Spooner) to a 5-1 win. The game started out with many chances for the Pack, but Hayward couldn’t put anything in the back of the net, and the score was 0-0 going into halftime.
The Wolfpack came out with guns blazing in the second half, with Kaden Bergman scoring off of an Ethan Wolfe shot in the 47th minute. Inter Wisconsin responded with a goal, but Bergman then scored again after Wolfe hit the crossbar in the 56th minute.
The game was all Hayward after that. Sebastian Paczuski scored off of a free kick by Cole Gewerth that was deflected by Bergman in the 61st minute. Confidence Idim and Justin Gawlik added goals to give the Wolfpack the winning 5-1 margin.
Cole Bergman finished with six saves in net, as Hayward outshot Inter Wisconsin 23-7.
On Sunday, July 7, the Wolfpack were looking for revenge after an early-season loss to Rice Lake, and they got it. Hayward quickly asserted their dominance when Owen Quast started the scoring off of a great through ball by Sebastian Paczuski.
The Wolfpack struck again in the 26th minute as Kaden Bergman slotted the ball home off of a Confidence Idim rebound. Bergman continued to punish the Rice Lake defense, going on to score three more goals in the 44th, 45th and 55th minutes, completing his four-goal night. Assists went to Will Hoeschler, Ethan Wolfe and Mohammed Keita.
The Wolfpack maintained their scoring streak later in the game, with Durim Camili capitalizing on a beautiful shot from outside of the box in the 73rd minute. Hoeschler and Quast finished out the scoring in the 81st and 85th minutes, respectively, with assists from Idim, Wolfe and Bergman.
Cole Bergman finished with four saves in net and was credited with the 8-0 shutout.
The Wolfpack will be back in action this Saturday in Hibbing, and then on Sunday, July 14, as they take on league leaders, Eau Claire Heat FC. in Hayward. Game time will be 6 p.m. at the Hayward Intermediate School field.
