Birkie donates to school district

The Hayward Community School District Board voted Monday, June 20, to continue free admission for spectators to sports events in the coming school year, and to continue allowing students to participate in athletics without paying a fee.

Also on Monday, Sheriff’s Deputy Darin Jensen reported that law enforcement officers and the Hayward School District will conduct a full-scale active shooter drill at the high school Aug. 16. It will include all stakeholders from the community: law enforcement, EMS, fire, hospital, school staff and a Life Link helicopter. All school staff will be highly encouraged, but not required, to attend the exercise, which is anticipated to take a full day.
