Park Center re-opens

The Park Center marquee, which read, “Closed for awhile yet” for months, is now back featuring coming attractions, such as the Aug. 2 show.

The Park Center is “back with a bang,” reopening to the public with an Aug. 2 show after going dark due to the COVID-19 pandemic over a year ago.

A staple of downtown Hayward since 1948, the nonprofit Park Center was originally a movie theater before becoming a venue for live entertainment with the mission to promote an appreciation of the arts within the area. It offered performances of some sort every week — until March 2020, “when everything just blew up with COVID,” said Park Board President Hobie Hobart. The Park closed immediately, “and nothing has happened here since then,” he said.
