MESA, ARIZONA — The Green Bay Packers are headed to San Francisco to play the 49ers in the NFC title game. Not too many people predicted that at the beginning of the season. The Packers won their 14th game of the year, beating Seattle last Sunday in much the same way they’ve won most of their games — just getting by.
With a new head coach, most football “experts” figured Green Bay would be lucky to go 8-8; instead, they won the NFC North by three games, although most of the time it wasn’t pretty. That’s OK, the league doesn’t give style points. It seems the Packers do just enough to win. Their only complete games of the year were wins over Dallas, Oakland and the second game against Minnesota.
