The new design of this year’s Highway 27 reconstruction project between Highway 63 and the south limits of the City of Hayward has drawn “many complaints” from the public, according to Sawyer County Highway Commissioner Gary Gedart.

Gedart told the Sawyer County Highway Safety Commission Nov. 20 that the southernmost portion of the project has one traffic lane in each direction, with a two-way left turn lane in between them. Going north toward the Highway B intersection, the road narrows to one lane, which creates traffic backups at times, especially in the morning for motorists inbound to school and work. It can take seven to eight minutes to get through the traffic light.
