One of the interesting observations that came out of Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Management Specialist Joshua Spiegel’s presentation at the May 1 Sawyer County Deer Advisory Council (SCDAC) meeting was that since 2009 there are 100,000 fewer deer hunter in the state and over the last 20 years the average age of a deer hunter is trending older.
“Every year we lose more and more people,” he said. “People are starting to age out of hunting. They’re no longer buying their licenses going in the woods, potentially dying, obviously, is a loss factor.”
