“This is not a good time to start hang gliding,” said Dr. Jonathan Shultz, emergency physician and medical director at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth.

What Shultz meant is that he wouldn’t recommend taking up a dangerous hobby right now where you might end up in the ER requiring a stay in an intensive care unit (ICU). That’s because in many of the larger regional, tertiary hospitals, such as St. Luke’s, where smaller critical care hospitals such as Hayward Area Memorial Hospital send patients for specialized/intensive care, an ICU bed might not be available.
