The Sawyer County Board on Nov. 10 approved the county’s 2021 budget, which included a levy to taxpayers of $12,395,368 or $655,421 more than the 2020 levy of $11,739,947, a 5.58% increase.

However, the mill rate, 0.334, the rate at which property is taxed, will actually decline in 2021 (the 2020 mill rate was 0.343) because the county’s equalized property valuation has increased nearly $38 million since last year. In other words, because the valuation for spreading the tax burden is greater, the rate of taxing is lower.
