Five Hayward Hurricanes baseball players were chosen to the 2019 Heart O’ North All-Conference Team that was announced this week.

The All-HON first team includes Hurricane senior pitcher Dak Doyle, senior catcher Terry Kilmer and junior infielder Austin Wessel.

The All-HON second team includes Hayward senior infielder Josh Kanters. Senior outfielder Jacob Boss received honorable mention.

Doyle led the Canes in batting this season with 34 hits and a .400 batting average. Kilmer had 35 hits and an average of .393. Kanters had 34 hits, including the team’s only home run and batted .374. Boss had 26 hits and batted .341.

Doyle was the top pitcher for the Hurricanes, compiling a 9-0 won-lost record with a 0.59 earned run average. He gave up 51 hits in 70 innings pitched, struck out 68 and walked 20. 

Northwestern’s Justin Sedin was named Player of the Year. Besides the Hayward players, the Heart O’ North All-Conference teams include: 

 

First team:Pitchers John Nauertz and A.J. Buchman of Spooner; catcher Wyatt Boe of Barron; infielders Bronson Schoefield of Chetek-Weyerhaeuser and Justin Sedin and Jake Brill of Northwestern. Outfielders Riley Bodsberg of Cumberland and Carsen Holsclaw of Northwestern.

 

Second team:Pitchers Cole Schwab of Bloomer and Wyatt Tift of Cumberland; catchers Travis Brunberg of Cumberland and Kole Paulsen of Northwestern; infielders Leif Iverson of Bloomer, Reid Olson of Cumberland and Dylan Ronchi of Northwestern; outfielders Ethan Rothbauer of Bloomer and Chase Melton of Spooner; utility player Tru Dupee of Ladysmith.

 

Honorable mention:  Catcher Tom Kissack of Spooner, infielders Justis Knutson of Chetek-Weyerhaeuser, Jack Martens of Cumberland and Brennen Werner of Northwestern; outfielders Warren Williams of Barron, Jared Newell, Dakota Hermann and Peyton Kowalski of Chetek-Weyerhaeuser, Spencer Draghi of Ladysmith, Nolan Gustafson of Northwestern and Carter Melton of Spooner.
