For 50 years — since Sept. 26, 1970 — the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore has been one of the many national treasures that make up the National Park System. And although the National Lakeshore’s 50th anniversary on Sept. 26, 2020, was overshadowed in the presence of the pandemic, park officials now are shining a spotlight on the anniversary.

Among the many events to commemorate the golden anniversary, notable efforts include two projects titled “A is for Apostle Islands” and “Island Intersections,” both of which have resulted in commemorative books. And an upcoming exhibit will share some of the artistic content (art and poems) from the books.
