Last week the Wisconsin Supreme Court decided that handicapped people had no right to vote unless they stood in line on election day or used their walkers or wheelchairs to deliver their ballots to the clerk’s office. Wisconsin Republicans filed suit to end the use of locked drop boxes convenient for people needing to cast an absentee ballot, and the Republicans on the court agreed.
The Republican Party believes that discouraging people from voting will help them defeat Democratic candidates. They may be right, but here in Sawyer county, many of those absentee ballots will probably be cast for Republicans. However, I think that every voter should have the right to express their preference without bothering a friend or paying for a ride to the clerk’s office,
