Just two months after David W. Anderson opened his “new concept in barbecue” restaurant in downtown Hayward, Jimmie’s Old Southern BBQ Smokehouse is opening up a second restaurant in another city.
The Old Southern BBQ owner/entrepreneur (previously known as Famous Dave) said he’s opening a restaurant on the northwest corner of County Highway O and Main Street in the SouthRidge Center, near Little Caesars and Verizon. He’s expecting to finalize the deal as soon as Monday June 22.
Rice Lake is a “growing community. The economy is thriving,” Anderson said.
Since Old Southern BBQ Smokehouse opened on Highway 63 north of Main Street in Hayward on April 14, business “has exceeded all our expectations, more than we could ever hope for,” Anderson said June 19. “We’ve had lines (of customers) out the door, and several times we’ve sold out of our barbecue.
Anderson said he’s “excited to announce that our July 3 fireworks will continue this year” at the former Original Famous Dave’s location on Richardson Bay. “We had so many inquiries, people saying that (the fireworks show) was a big event that their whole families watched. It was such a fun thing, a highlight of their visit here, something they looked forward to.
“We decided that we would pull out all the stops and get the fireworks back” this year, he said. It’s been a tradition for 20-some years.”
