Dean Peet, 84 of Barnes, WI passed away peacefully Friday, May 31st at Essentia Health in Du-luth, MN with his loving wife of 30 years, Lu, by his side.
Dean was born in Chetek, WI to parents Clinton and Edna (Londo) Peet. After Dean’s mother died when he was very young, his father married Helga Amundson of Barron, WI. He lived most of his early life in Barron and Helga was always a special part of Dean’s life. When Dean was nearing 18 in 1952, he enlisted in the US Air Force where he spent 20 years and retired as SSgt E-5 in 1972. He served in both the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was always very proud and humbled to have served his country.
He and his family lived in several different places during his career, ending up in Manning, SC where he lived after re-tiring from the military. Dean’s parents had moved to Gordon in the 1950’s and built Peet’s Bar (now the Y Go By). Dean moved there in 1982 to be near his step mother. He opened up an automotive shop and was owner and operator of Peet’s Motor Service for many years. In 1989 he married Lucille (Adler) Behling of Waukesha, WI. In 1999 he and Lu moved to Barnes, WI.
Dean was very active in the community and served on the Town Board of Gordon, WI for 6 years. He was a member of the Barnes VFW Post 8329 and was past Commander. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 499 in Gor-don, WI; Barnes Area Historical Association, Inc.; Lake Country ATV Club; Eau Claire Lakes Conservation Club and First Lutheran Church in Hayward. Dean loved to golf and was a member and president for many years of the Gordon Men’s League and also a member of the Monday Night Couples League with his wife, Lu, at Forest Point Golf Course. Dean also loved to garden and fish and especially loved his “kitties”. Above all he was a wonderful husband, father and friend.
Dean is survived by his wife Lucille (Adler-Behling) Peet; son Delmar Dean (Mildred) Peet II; daughter, Vickie Lynn (Wayne) Bryant all of Manning, SC; son John C. (Louie) Peet (sons Jamie and Matthew Hoover of Minong. WI); and custodial daughter Michelle (Timmons) Ruprecht and her two daughters, Lee Anna and Hannah Ruprecht of Barnes, WI. Dean is also survived by stepsons, Timothy (Joanne) Behling of Menomonee Falls, WI and Jeffrey (Kristine Farns-worth and Macey) Behling of Elkhorn, WI; and stepdaughter Lisa (Jon Berg) Behling of Gordon, WI. Dean is also sur-vived by grandsons Delmar Dean (Hannah) Peet III; Matthew (Alyssa) Peet; Clint (Samantha) Bryant; and Shane (Courtney) Bryant all of SC; step grandson Aaron Behling and his son, Gabriel; and step granddaughters Heather and Emily Berg of Gordon, WI. Dean also had several great grandchildren; Calvin and Delmar Dean Peet IV and Wyatt and Charlotte Bryant all of SC. Dean is survived by his brother Lee Arden (Lynn) Peet of Chester, MT; sister, Joyce Rolnik of Park Falls, WI ; and step brother Donald (Lillian) Peet of Kenosha, WI. Dean is also survived by many nieces, neph-ews, great nieces and great nephews and more. He is also survived by his many friends.
Besides his parents and step mother, Dean was preceded in death by his brother Clinton (Bud) Peet; brother-in-law Glen Rolnik and several nephews and great nephews.
Per Dean’s wishes, he was cremated and there will be no funeral services. A celebration of his life will be planned for later on. The Cremation Society of MN handled the cremation. He wished not be buried and will have his ashes strewn. Memorials may be made to the Barnes Area Historical Association, Inc. or Barnes VFW Post 8329.
