Karen Harden, chief professional officer, and Heather Peterson, unit director of The Boys and Girls Club of Lac Courte Oreilles, have received the prestigious Merit Award for program excellence in character and leadership for the club’s “Images Teen Girl Leadership Program.”
The award was presented by Dr. Damon Williams, senior vice president and chief education officer, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, during their 109th National Conference in Chicago.
The “Images” program was developed by Harden in 1996 and for the first time, is now serving teens of the mothers who are considered Club Alumni and past “Images” participants.
Merit Awards for Program Excellence are sponsored by MetLife Foundation and presented annually for outstanding programs developed and implemented to lead youth to great futures at Boys & Girls Clubs across the country.
Each honoree also receives a $2,500 award.
Each year, hundreds of entries are submitted in the five core program areas: character and leadership development; education and career development; health and life skills; the arts; and sports, fitness and recreation.
Moving into its 20th year, the Boys and Girls Club of Lac Courte Oreilles provides program opportunities focused on the areas of Healthy Lifestyles, Academic Success, and Character and Leadership for hundreds of boys and girls each year. The club is open for all youth, ages 6-18, after school and in the summer.
Parents interested in having their children join the club and learn more about its youth programs may contact the organization at (715) 634-4030 or visit the website at www.boysandgirlslco.org.
