The Sherman & Ruth Weiss Community Library in Hayward will host a program titled “Tour de U.P.: Fall Hiking in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, in the library community room.

The program will be presented by Scott Smith, who wrote in the October 2018 issue of Silent Sports Magazine, “Autumn is a wonderful time to hike, as the surroundings are enhanced with both brilliant and muted colors, as well as cooler temperatures.”

Smith and his wife Paulette and their dog Daisy drove across the U.P. in six days, stopping at two or three trails each day to discover the varied types of topography, field and forest, and water features that this unique area of the Upper Midwest provides.
