Runners and walkers are invited to be a part of Hayward’s legendary summer celebration, the 60th annual Lumberjack World Championships, by racing 5 kilometers (3.2 miles) in the Lumberjack Run Saturday, Aug. 3.
Sponsored by the American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation, the race starts at 8 a.m. on Hall of Fame Drive at Lumberjack Bowl and finishes behind the grandstand.
The loop course heads south on Rock Creek Road and traverses trails and side streets. The home stretch is on the pedestrian/bicycle trail parallel to Highway B.
Participants may register online at birkie.com or in person from 6:45-7:45 a.m. race day at Lumberjack Bowl. Each pre-registration includes a ticket for the Thursday, Aug. 1, performance of the Lumberjack World Championships.
Prizes will be awarded for the best lumberjack and lumberjill costumes. The top male finisher, top female finisher and one lucky participant chosen at random will receive a free entry to any individual Birkie event.
Participants may pick up their packets from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 1-2 at the Birkie office or from 6:45-7:45 a.m. race day at Lumberjack Bowl.
