Ronald C. Hodd, 78, of Hayward passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at his home.
Ronald Charles Hodd was born Aug. 13, 1943, in Hayward, the son of Roy and Evelyn (Martinson) Hodd, one of nine siblings. Ronald was raised in Hayward and graduated from Hayward High School in 1962. On Nov. 30, 1962, Ronald joined the U.S. Army and served at Hickam Field in Hawaii, where he was a mechanic on helicopters and jeeps. While stationed in Hawaii, Ron met Rosemary Willis Dale. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 24, 1965. Ronald returned Hayward and on May 14, 1966, Ron was married to Rose Dale in Hayward. He owned Northstar Gas Station in 1967 and later worked with Mike Keene Construction as a carpenter for several years. Ron then took a job with the Department of Natural Resources State Tree Nursery, where he operated heavy equipment. With his love for the outdoors, Ron enthusiastically became involved in his new job, which consisted primarily of planting trees. He planted trees on his own property after work. He retired from the DNR in 2010. Ron enjoyed operating the horse ranch at his home, which allowed him to work on his farming equipment and trucks and train horses. He also enjoyed ice fishing.
