Hayward Nordic Kids and the American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation once again have joined forces to provide ski lessons to children aged 3 through 5th grade. Registration for the 2020 Hayward Nordic Kids Program is open until Nov. 30 or until 150 kids have registered.

The cost for 8 weeks of lessons is $25. Equipment rental is also available for $45 for the season. Rental equipment handout is held Dec. 10 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. behind Apple Awards on Highway 63 North.

The mission of Hayward Nordic Kids is to promote the sport of cross-country skiing by providing a fun and organized teaching program for all area youth and to encourage children to develop skills in cross country skiing in a non-competitive manner.

Lessons are held on Sundays at the Samuel C. Johnson Family Outdoor Center at the OO Trailhead on Highway OO in Seeley from 1 to 2:30 p.m. for ages 6 to 5th grade and 1 to 2 p.m. for ages 3-5. Parents are asked to be present during lessons.

Lessons start Jan. 5, 2020, and will end with a picnic and fun race on March 1. There are no lessons the week of the American Birkebeiner. Special lesson dates include Friday night Glo-skis, Sunday dress up day and Treats on the trail lesson.
