Following a 3.5-day trial, a Sawyer County jury Thursday, Sept. 19, found Christopher A. Grover, 44, of Hayward guilty of nine counts of arson and six counts of criminal damage to religious property on the evening of July 14, 2012, on the Lac Courte Oreilles reservation. The six sites included a large ceremonial lodge on Trepania Road which was destroyed by fire.

The jury deliberated approximately three hours before reaching its verdict.

Judge John Yackel revoked Grover’s bond and ordered a pre-sentence investigation from the Department of Corrections. He set a sentencing hearing for Monday, Nov. 25.

Grover told the court he intends to appeal the verdict.

Grover was represented by Attorney James Krave. The case was prosecuted by Wisconsin Assistant Attorney General Richard Dufour.
