The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force and Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office announced June 10 that James Allen Hatcher, 45, of Hayward has been charged with 10 counts of possessing child pornography.
On June 5, law enforcement executed a search warrant on Hatcher’s residence at the Edelweiss Motel, 16081 Park Road, and he was taken into custody. Hatcher was booked in the Sawyer County Jail on June 5.
According to the court charges, on May 12 a Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) special agent downloaded child pornography from a computer which was located at Hatcher’s residence. Hatcher was a long-term tenant at the motel.
On June 5, the motel owners tuned over their electronic devices to the DCI agent and a Sawyer County detective for consent searches and no contraband was located.
DCI agents obtained a search warrant for Hatcher’s apartment and on June 5 found a laptop computer hard drive with more than 180 files of child pornography in the apartment. After he was arrested, Hatcher admitted to being the only person to use the laptop computer, and admitted to downloading, saving and viewing child pornography onto the computer.
Hatcher was jailed on a $100,000 cash bond and had his initial court appearance June 7. He is ordered to have no contact with anyone under age 18, not to use the Internet and not to possess any device that can connect with the Internet.
A preliminary hearing is set for June 17.
