The Hayward Community Choir is less than a month away from the first rehearsal for its 31st annual Christmas Cantata and is looking for four or more talented soloists to take on the soprano, alto, tenor, and bass solos.
Choir Director Holly Bacha announced that the first rehearsal will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, in the Hayward High School choir room. This year’s program will feature a blend of the new with the old: Pentatonix and Handel’s “Messiah.”
“This is an ambitious year, and we are going to be challenged,” Bacha said. “I know that we can do this, and I am so ready to bring these diverse masterpieces to our audience members. Tell your friends. Get your singer friends to join us.”
The choir will be programming seven Pentatonix arrangements, which will comprise the cantata’s entire first half as well as the closing benediction. After intermission, the choir will break into “The Messiah,” for which the choir has about five minutes of planned selections from all three parts.
Auditions for the soprano, alto, tenor and bass solos listed in the program will be held Sunday, Sept. 22, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hayward, one week prior to the first rehearsal, Bacha said. There is no need to sign up; just plan to be at the church from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 22. Those auditioning will be expected to prepare the solo selection(s) for their chosen voice part.
