Every other year the Northwoods Humane Society presents Applause For Paws, a fundraising event that includes music, appetizers and wine. This year’s event will begin at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, July 13, at the Hayward Veterans Center with the soft jazz of musician Tom Nigbor and will move next door to the Park Center for a concert by Molly and the Danger Band

At the Veterans Center attendees will enjoy appetizers prepared and served by NHS volunteers and wine provided by Out Of The Woods Winery. The event also will feature a live auction, door prizes and a silent auction.

“This is an important fundraiser for the Northwoods Humane Society,” said NHS President Deanna Persson. “The proceeds will be directed toward the care of the animals at the NHS Shelter as well as community outreach.”

Persson added, “As a no-kill humane society, all animals are cared for until the perfect home is found for them. The Northwoods Humane Society receives no funding from local, state or federal governmental sources. NHS is funded by memberships, donations, fundraisers, our NHS Thrift Shop, grants and bequests.”

Items in the live auction will include a dining package, a day of fishing with guide Mike Persson and a hand crafted fishing rod by Steve Braddish. There will be a gift certificate from Hayward Power Sports for a one-day pontoon rental, a Thermos QuickSet three-burner gas grill donated by Do It Best Hardware and a meat package from Lynn’s Custom Meats.

Anyone wishing to donate an item or gift certificate for the event may drop the items off at Art Beat of Hayward or the NHS Shelter. Contact Persson at (715) 634-4543 to arrange pickup or for more information.

Sponsors for the event include Peoples Bank Midwest, Beehive Botanicals, Armstrong Insurance, Art Beat of Hayward and Nature’s Design.

Advance tickets go on sale Wednesday, June 19, at  $35 per person at the NHS Thrift Shop, Northwoods Humane Society Shelter and Art Beat of Hayward or online at the Park Center website. Tickets also may be purchased at the door for $40.
