The 11th annual Friends of the Library Adopt-a-Book Night @ the Library fundraiser will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, at the Sherman & Ruth Weiss Community Library in Hayward.
Library patrons are invited to stop by the library and “adopt” (sponsor) new and intriguing books, movies, audiobooks, newspapers and magazines for the library’s collection. Donors can choose from hundreds of library items on display, including a variety of children’s books, while listening to local musician Steve Trude. There will be complimentary appetizers, wine, punch and coffee and beverages in the community meeting room.
Adopt-a-Book Night gives a “sneak peek” at soon-to-be-published books by popular authors such as Anne Perry, Stephen King, Janet Dailey, Vince Flynn, Jeffrey Archer, J. D. Robb, William Kent Krueger, Clive Cussler and more. Library cataloger Betty Beckman says, “These books will be available for checkout shortly after their publication dates.”
Those who “adopt” items are encouraged to dedicate them to a loved one, a friend, an organization or even a pet. The plate will go into the book/item to be seen by everyone who checks it out. You are welcome to get fun and creative with your dedications. We’ll provide some for inspiration that evening.
“The Adopt-a-Book Night Fundraiser began when Friends Chair Alice Kissinger went to a similar event in another town and brought the concept back to Hayward,” said Molly Lank-Jones, library director. “We’re happy to be celebrating our 11th year of the event.”
An early bird sale also will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13. A limited selection of materials will be available for adoption with an emphasis on children’s items.
Proceeds from items purchased at Book Night go to enhance the library’s collections. For more information, contact the library at (715) 634-2161 email@example.com. The library is located at 10788 Highway 27-77.
