Barron County Sheriff's deputies were faced with an armed man threatening to die by suicide at around 2:08 a.m., according to a department press release issued Oct. 17. 

The release states dispatch received a report of a 19-year-old male making suicidal statements and in possession of a 9mm semi-auto handgun at around 1:48 a.m. 

Law enforcement located the man while he was driving a vehicle north of Cumberland. 

After deputies made contact with him, the release states the man displayed a handgun and refused to comply with law enforcement commands to drop the weapon. After 10 minutes of negotiation, the subject complied and was taken into custody. He was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. 

No shotes were fired by deputies, states the release, and all the deputies went home safe. 

The Cumberland Police Department assisted with the case.
