A mild winter last year allowing for population growth in most areas should allow for good opportunities for hunters who head out to the woods for Saturday’s gun deer hunting opener.
After a harsher winter in 2019-20, harvest numbers were up in 2020 in the county. Last year’s harvest in Barron County was up by about 350 from the previous year with 4,761 deer registered in 2020 during the nine-day season. Buck harvest trends have remained relatively consistent over the past decade, while antlerless totals change more significantly depending on the number of additional harvest authorizations provided. Overall the state has had below-average harvests over the past two seasons.
