Rice Lake City Council reaffirmed its decision Tuesday to reduce full-time firefighters from 12 to 11 as part of the 2019 city budget.

The Council voted 5-3 in favor of filling a 12th firefighter position, but it was a vote short of the required two-thirds majority needed to amend the 2019 budget. Because the language used in the motion passed in 2019 specifically excluded funding the position, the City’s legal counsel Arnold Koehler opined that a two-thirds majority was needed.
