"Shelley” (Dennise Michelle Wintrone) Skemp, age 59, of St Croix Falls, WI, died peacefully at home on Saturday, October 5, 2019 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She fought every moment with a smile on her face and unconditional love in her heart. Shelley was 4 days shy of her 60th birthday.

Shelley is survived by her father Allen (Donna) Carl Wintrone of Menomonie, WI; step father "Jim" James (Maggie) Tony Weise;  aunt Delores Nevin of Barron, WI; uncle “Joe” Mert (Kathy) Cowley; a sister Dianne (Tom) Koser of Rice Lake, WI; step sister Twyla (Marcus) Sockness-Griffin of Sedalia, MO; step brother Marc Schneider of Eau Claire, WI and step sisters Carrie Williamson and Heidi Fairbanks of Menomonie, WI; a daughter, Stacy (Brian) Marie Hollmann of Minneapolis, MN; a son, Aaron (Kari) James Skemp of St. Croix Falls, WI; caretaker and son-in-Law, “Nate” Nathan Paul Hollmann; two grandchildren, Adelaide Stella and Dezi Elizabeth Hollmann; three nephews, “JT” Jay Thomas (Katie) Koser, Taylor Robert Koser, and Sean Sockness; a niece, Gracie Sockness; and many life-long incredible friends including Julie Kay Larson, Brenda Tebben, Randy Shaw and Linda Nelson with whom she spent many years of laughs and tears, as well as many “adopted family” members through her nearly 30 years of service in the Saint Criox Falls School District. She is preceded in death by children’s father Steven Norbert Skemp; her great grandmother Elna Agnes (Jennings) Cowley; grandparents Helmer and Hannah Wintrone; grandparents Mert and Mildred Cowley; her loving mother, Nancy Sue (Cowley) Weise; her uncles Seymour (Charlotte) Wintrone and “Mike” Brian (Becky) Cowley; aunt Pauline (Mike) Mullikin, and many, many more.

Shelley was born on October 9th, 1959 in Barron, WI to Nancy Sue Weise and Allen Carl Wintrone and graduated from Barron High School in 1978. Among her many accomplishments in band, choir, track and cheerleading, she was also chosen as homecoming queen by her peers.  Growing up in the small town of Barron shaped her value of relationships with others and she sought out the best in everyone, making a point to enjoy each happy moment with them. She loved camping, cooking, interior design and remodeling as well as gardening, knitting and helping others find smiles.    On June 14th, 1980, Shelley married Steven Norbert Skemp in Barron, WI. Shortly after that, they moved to Lansford, ND where they had Stacy and Aaron. There they made many friends while she ran an in-home daycare and provided her children with a spectacular childhood.  Upon moving to the beautiful Saint Croix River valley in the mid 1980’s, she continued making a living caring for others children while keeping her own children by her side. In order to maintain this motherly bond, she started working at the Dresser Elementary School in 1990 when Stacy started Kindergarten. Shelley was a superhero mom and touched each person she knew in the communities of Barron, WI and Lansford, ND.  Saint Criox Falls has been no exception, working for the St Croix Falls School District for nearly 30 years, right up until she could literally no longer stand on her own two feet. With courageous perseverance, Shelley has exhibited unconditional love, hard work and bravery every day. She stuck to her values to build the life she imagined best for her family and the whole world, nearly never remembering to take her own needs into account. Selfless, creative, ambitious, silly, stubborn, brave and one-of-a kind, Shelley has taught each of us that we can live happily no matter what pain or heartache comes our way and that we can smile in the face of agony and tragedy, and can and should dance in the rain. She has selflessly given the gift we all wish to receive: unconditional love. She has given this to her universe each and every day and that love will continue through all of us until pigs fly.
