On August 6th, our Pretty Mary Sunshine, better known as Mary Aurelia (Truax) Bodis, left this earth with family at her side in Wisconsin. After several confusing months of illness, she was diagnosed with Amyloidosis, a rare blood disease.
Mary was born December 13th, 1941, in Wheeling WV, to Harry and Olivia Truax, the third of eight children she was the “M” in HOMEMADE, the word spelled by the initials of their eight children. She graduated from Holy Name High School in Cleveland, OH in 1959. Shortly after that she met Milan and they married on February 20th, 1965. Mary and Milan raised three wonderful humans, Tim, Paul, and Stacy, who are forever grateful to have had the kindest mother. Over the years they resided in Cleveland and Canton, Ohio; Syracuse, New York; Cadillac, Michigan; and Rice Lake, Wisconsin eventually retiring in The Villages, Florida.
Mary loved others and was always truly curious about them. Sincerely observant, she desired to satisfy their needs and strove to keep life full of fun along the way. She never sought the spotlight, but rather enjoyed being in the background. She was such a successful and accomplished businesswoman but chose to share the credit whenever asked. Even if asked if she was artistic she’d reply “no, my role is to enjoy what others create”.
Mary and Milan started Bodis Jewelers in Rice Lake, WI, together in 1981, turning their hobby of crafting and selling jewelry into a long career. Mary worked hard at the jewelry store and got involved in many community organizations. She loved being a part of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church community, volunteering her time to the school and church over many years.
She was an avid golfer, card player, and bowler. She loved going with her friends to bowling tournaments. It wasn't uncommon for them to get hotel noise complaints (even in her 70s) because they stayed up late playing cards; laughing and talking. She was very good at both! She wasn’t competitive, just loved the time spent with friends and family. Also, if you didn’t get enough to eat when Mary was around, it was your own damn fault. Those that knew her will know this to be exactly true!
Mary is survived by her three mentioned children, Tim (D’Ann) of Birchwood, WI; Paul (Rebecca) of Milwaukee, WI; and Stacy of Driggs, ID. Also her three brothers Harry (Sally), Mike (Shelia), and Dick (Gail) and her sister-in-law Sharon Truax. Plus too many loved nieces and nephews to mention. She was Mimi to four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She was comforted knowing she would be reunited in heaven with her parents, husband Milan, and four siblings; others who left us too early. Mary already is and will forever be missed by many.
Mary’s service will be held on Saturday, October 12thin Rice Lake, WI. Visitation is at 11 am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, followed by mass at 12. Immediately following mass we will proceed to Turtleback for a celebration of Mary’s life.
