The Barron County administrator and his department heads met with a representative of the Census Bureau on Sept 5, when they were instructed to put together a Census Complete County Committee.
They were alerted to compliance problems in the county on the last census and asked to put forth a diligent effort to achieve countywide compliance.
Administrator Jeff French told the County Board of Supervisors at its Sept. 16 meeting that from Jan. 1-Aug. 1, 2020, the committee will be working diligently to get all county residents counted for a more accurate representation than has occurred in the past.
He said special attention will be given to children under age 5, snowbirds, religious sects and immigrants with language barriers.
“One way or another, we will have to do it,” French said.
He said there is no longer a long form, just 10 questions that can be filled out on a card or online.
County Board chair Louie Okey said it will still be an onerous task that will require a lot of work from the county’s staff.
