The new gym at Rice Lake Middle School was the site of the communitywide Veterans Day celebration. Student Council members were greeters, gave out paper poppies to veterans and offered cookies to all. The program featured music by the middle school band and choir, speeches by students and acknowledgement of veterans from all branches of the military. Following a 21-gun salute, "Taps" was played by two middle school trumpeters and their band director. Following the program, banners that were displayed along the lakeshore this summer were given to the families of the 22 veterans in the first year of the Honoring Our Heroes program.
