Trees still brown. No leaves. Barely a bud. A few birds, also brown. Colorless. Look hard. Dig deep. Keep your eyes open. North winds persist. Nature tentatively returns to life. At last. A small bud here. A tiny blossom there. A fuzzy pussy willow tip.

One morning. Five yellow, purple, lavender-striped crocuses appear in my neighbor’s yard. Fall to the ground at such a beautiful, magical sight! Next the daffodils. Suddenly ready to burst. Yellow tips push at the green casing.
