Amery overtook the Rice Lake Warriors in the second half for a 54-46 win in a girls high school basketball opener Thursday night.

Rice Lake led 23-21 at halftime and scored the first two points of the second half. But Amery went on a 23-8 run, taking a 28-27 lead and then building a double digit lead at 44-33 by midway through the second half of the nonconference opener.

Amery made 7 of 18 three-pointers and was led by the 15 points of senior Ella Schmidt.

Rice Lake had a tough night at the free throw line at 6 of 15. The Warriors got 24 points from sophomore Brynn Olson and 10 from senior Lexi Orr.

The Warriors return to action Tuesday, Nov. 26, hosting Menomonie in a 7:15 p.m. start.
