Rice Lake Warrior goalie Ian Krance reaches to glove the puck after a shot by Hayward's Gibson Walsh, behind Rice Lake's Riley Strohm, in second period action Saturday.

Freshman Jace Fitzgerald scored twice and sophomore goalie Ian Krance made eight saves in overtime as Rice Lake and Hayward skated to a 2-2 tie in a high school hockey thriller Saturday afternoon at the Rice Lake Hockey Arena.

Rice Lake (2-3-1) never trailed as Fitzgerald made it 1-0 late in the first period off a rebound of Tyson Tomesh's shot and gave the Warriors a 2-1 lead late in the second period on a breakaway pass from Tomesh.

Hayward (6-1-1) got the tying goals from Blake Yoder early in the second period and from Cole Asp at the 6:24 mark of the third period.

Krance made 32 saves, with eight of them coming in the 8-minute scoreless overtime. Hayward goalie Nate Thomas totaled 28 saves, including four in overtime.

Rice Lake's next action is in the North Shore Tournament at Minnesota rinks in Silver Bay and Two Harbors on Thursday through Saturday, Dec. 26-28.
