The Rice Lake Warriors posted another first place on Saturday but came up just short in their bid to repeat as champions in the Division 2 boys state track and field meet at UW-La Crosse's Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Freedom won the last event of the day—the 1,600-meter relay—to pass Rice Lake for the championship, totaling 48.5 points. Rice Lake was just behind at 47 points, while Peshtigo was a distant third with 34.

The Warrior boys won the 400-meter relay this Saturday afternoon in the exact same time of 42.64 seconds that they posted to lead Friday's preliminaries. That first place joins the state title won by junior Adam Strouf in shot put competition Friday. Strouf came back today to place second in the discus.

Also on Saturday, Marquez Clerveaux placed second and DeAirus Clerveaux sixth in the 100-meter dash, DeAirus Clerveaux added a third place in the 400, Gannon Christman was seventh in the 110-meter hurdles, Derek Penzkover 12th in the 1,600 and J.P. Senyoni 13th in triple jump.

For the Warrior girls on Saturday, Jasmine Mlejnek placed fifth in the high jump. On Friday, Anna Penzkover was ninth in the 1,600, while Trinity Roberts DQ'd in the 100-meter hurdles.
