Shoebox gifts are being collected this week, Nov. 18-25, to distribute to children around the world this Christmas as part of Operation Christmas Child.The goal at the Rice Lake collection site at Maranatha Ministry Center at 3340 S. Main St., is 1,200 shoeboxes.Last year, OCC volunteers collected 1,035 shoebox gifts.Shoeboxes may be dropped off at the Rice Lake site as follows: Monday, Nov. 18: 3-5 p.m.; Tuesday, Nov. 19: 6-8 p.m.; Wednesday, Nov. 20: 3-5 p.m.; Thursday, Nov. 21: 6-8 p.m.; Friday, Nov. 22: 4-6 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 23: 10 a.m. to noon; Sunday, Nov. 24: 9 a.m. to noon and 3-5 p.m.; and Monday, Nov. 25: 10 a.m. to noon.
The foldable boxes may be picked up at the center or at King’s Way Bible and Gift in Rice Lake and returned to either the store or ministry center.
Fill with toys, hygiene items or school supplies—no liquids or food—and if desired, include a Christmas card or personal greeting. A donation of $9 will cover the shipping cost, but is not required.Boxes should be designated for girl or boy and if most appropriate for ages 2-4, 5-9 or 10-14.
OCC drop-off team leader Joan Neidermire said people can go to samaritanspurse.org to get information on how to pack a shoebox, and there is locator to help them find drop-off locations near them. Or people with questions may call her at 612-308-6425.
