The Barron County Highway Commission has gone with a Chippewa Falls architectural firm to put together a conceptual design for a new Highway Facility.
Civil engineering and architecture firm CBS Squared began in 2011, according to its website, and it’s completed projects include the Menomonie Municipal Airport Terminal, Eau Claire Travel Plaza and the Jackson, Minn. Combined Maintenance Facility.
The firm’s final delivery for the Barron County Highway Facility is scheduled for Jan. 15, and the Highway Committee and County Board will review the plans in February.
CBS Squared’s plan will include a facility study, conceptual design and preliminary budget. Barron County officials stress ed that the plan would be conceptual and subject to amendment.
The current Highway Department Facility on Hwy. 25 in Barron was built in the 1940s, and besides space limitations, has insulation and ventilation issues and a leaking roof.
A replacement roof was quoted at more than $100,000.
Highway Commissioner Mark Servi told County Supervisors in August that the ideal building would provide a roof for all 13 dump trucks and 27 snow plows the department operates.
