Cameron student Peyton Kupper was recently awarded the Kwik Trip Badlands Rising Star Scholarship this week with a surprise visit by local singer and NBC’s The Voice runner-up Chris Kroeze and camp founder and Voice finalist Kat Perkins.
“Our selection committee was blown away by the essay Peyton wrote about both passion and compassion, two incredibly important qualities! Not only her talent, but her heart make her a perfect fit for the camp and we’re excited to host her this July!” said camp founder Kat Perkins. Peyton is a 13 year old who will be entering the 8th grade this Fall.
Peyton’s scholarship of $1,000 will cover full camp tuition as well as a travel stipend to get out to the Badlands of North Dakota where she’ll join campers from all over the country to learn and receive coaching in everything from singing and performance, voice and stage presence, music business, small group performances, acting, songwriting, dance, and more. The week of camp will culminate with the opportunity to perform on the stage of the legendary Burning Hills Amphitheater!
The scholarship was started as an idea local singer Chris Kroeze had in an effort to help provide opportunities to youth who are interested in music. “One thing that’s important to me is to use my position to give back and I would have given anything to have a camp like this as a kid. I couldn’t be more excited to see someone from right here in NW Wisconsin being awarded one of the scholarships we’re giving out this year!”
Wisconsin based Kwik Trip helped make this scholarship and dream a reality. “I had some meetings with Kwik Trip late last year about some various events we were doing, and when I told them about this scholarship idea they jumped on board without hesitation and asked how they could help” Kroeze said. “Peyton is going to have an unforgettable week and we’ll be excited to see where her talent and spark take her!
