Former Rice Lake High School track star Kenny Bednarek has reportedly signed a professional contract with Nike, according to a FloTrack Twitter retweet by Indian Hills Community College, the Iowa junior college where Bednarek just completed his freshman season. The July 2 signing was confirmed by Bednarek in text messages with The Rice Lake Chronotype on Wednesday.
Bednarek was a Wisconsin state high school track champion at three sprint distances in 2018, his senior season with the Rice Lake Warriors. In May, he won national titles at 200 and 400 meters in the National Junior College Athletic Assn. outdoor championships. He won the 200 in 19.82 seconds, an NJCAA record and the third fastest time in college history.
See the July 10 Chronotype newspaper for coverage of Bednarek's decision to go professional.
